World authority on Tinnitus Retraining Therapy brings audiology team up to
The seminars, focusing on treatment and new trends in research were conducted in August this year when Western Hearing Services took the initiative to invite the world authorities on Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, Dr’s Pawel and Margaret Jastreboff to Australia. Tinnitus refers to ringing in the ears or head noises. The Jastreboffs conducted seminars to train attending audiologists on the latest findings for clinical management of Tinnitus. The techniques advocated by the Jastreboffs are underpinned by sound neurophysiological principles and these techniques are now being used in over 30 countries around the world. Dr Jastreboff first proposed the neurophysiological model of Tinnitus in 1991 and has been refining his techniques in clinical practice ever since. Western Hearing Services has seen thousands of patients with tinnitus. Until these recent seminars only three of our current staff had the appropriate training to conduct Tinnitus assessments and tinnitus management, now all of our audiologists are qualified to conduct these assessments. The recent seminars mean that all the audiologists at Western Hearing Services now have the appropriate training to assist clients with Tinnitus. Exciting for the audiologists who attended the advanced course was the new information about treating patients with Misophonia and Tensor Tympani Syndrome. Patients with these disorders came from as far away as Fitzroy Crossing and Darwin to be counselled by Dr Jastreboff in front of the audiologists. For Tinnitus enquiries please phone 1800 622 121 or your nearest branch of Western Hearing Services.
